The spirit of community and philanthropy took center stage last weekend at the first annual Kick Cancer Overboard (KKO) “Under the Stars” gala.
Rockit Academy student Ashley Marie delivered a standout performance, using her vocal talents to support the event’s mission. Her appearance was a reflection of the Academy’s core philosophy: that music education extends far beyond technical skill, emphasizing the importance of using art to serve the community.
“For Rockit Academy, music is about giving back,” executive direction Bruce Gallipani shared following the event. “Whether it’s our annual December holiday concert or special events like this gala, our curriculum is designed to teach students how to use their gifts to lift up their community.”
The gala also provided a meaningful homecoming for Gallipani. In addition to his leadership at the Academy, Gallipani serves on the Board of Directors for Kick Cancer Overboard. He enjoyed a special reunion with alumni twins Zach and Zander, who had previously participated in the Rockit family through full scholarships provided by the Rockit Live Foundation.
For Gallipani and the Academy, seeing former students return to support such a vital cause represented the pinnacle of their work. “Seeing our alumni continue to show up and support the mission is the ultimate ‘proud papa’ moment for the entire academy,” he noted.
As the Rockit Academy continues to integrate service into its music curriculum, the successful gala served as a testament to the organization’s “Music with a Mission” approach, proving that the next generation of musicians is equally committed to making a difference.
