Scholarship Spotlights

Fall 2025 Patricia Gaines Scholarship Recipient
Luke Ireland
For freshman Luke Ireland, music isn’t just a hobby—it’s his entire world. So, when he found out he was receiving the Rockit scholarship, “awesome” didn’t even begin to cover it. The award felt like the ultimate validation of his deepest passion: taking the stage, pouring his heart into a performance, and sharing that energy with an audience.
Ask Luke to describe his time with Rockit, and the words spill out in a rush of genuine excitement: “Outstanding.” “Life-changing.” “A family.” He’s already looking down the road, and the view is crystal clear. He simply cannot imagine a future that doesn’t have a soundtrack attached to it. As far as he’s concerned, there is absolutely nothing else he’d rather do for the rest of his life.
But if you ask Luke’s parents, they’ll tell you the magic of the program goes way beyond mastering chords and melodies. Watching him grow, they’ve seen Rockit transform into a masterclass for the real world.
By constantly collaborating with a diverse group of peers and learning from world-class instructors, Luke hasn’t just found his voice through an instrument—he’s found it in conversation. He has learned the delicate art of building relationships and the true meaning of synergy, discovering exactly what it takes to make a band click.
Behind the scenes, the program has quietly instilled a rock-solid work ethic. Luke has embraced the unglamorous but vital habits that define a true professional: punctuality, deep preparedness, and an innate respect for the talent of his fellow musicians. Standing in the spotlight has done wonders for his public speaking confidence, while the rigorous, fast-paced environment has taught him the most valuable lesson of all: resilience. When a note goes wrong or a rehearsal falls flat, Luke doesn’t dust himself off with defeat; he learns from the mistake, adjusts his grip, and keeps playing.
The Rockit Live Foundation congratulates Luke on this monumental achievement and looks forward to watching him shine on stage and in the community throughout the coming year.

Spring 2025 Patricia Gaines Scholarship Recipient
Madison Decker
Madison Decker is a deserving recipient of the inaugural $5,000 Patricia Gaines Scholarship, providing a full year of tuition to Rockit Academy. This award recognizes not only Madison’s talent and passion but also her strong work ethic and dedication, qualities she proudly attributes to her parents.
Upon receiving the scholarship, Madison reflected on its criteria, stating, “When I received the scholarship I read in its description how important it is to have a good work ethic. I am most proud that I got that from my mom and my [late] father. They both set an excellent example of, “hard work pays off.” I’ve watched and observed them over the years from when I was a little girl watching my father work crazy hours and now seeing my mom get up and work hard sometimes six days a week. [It] inspires me every day to do what I need to do when it comes to my interest and work.”
Beyond her individual drive, Madison envisions a future where her musical talents can positively impact others. “As I look into my future, I really want to inspire others and work with people to fulfill them and heal them with music. I know when I sit down at the piano and just play, it truly heals and comforts me.” This desire to connect and heal through music perfectly embodies the three words Madison uses to describe her experience with Rockit: innovation, comradery, and empowerment.
Madison’s transformative journey at Rockit has been evident to her mother, Michele, who attests to the program’s profound impact. Michele has observed a significant increase in Madison’s self-confidence and discipline, noting, “She went from very shy to now glowing on stage. Madison has always had a gift for music, but now she is learning the discipline it takes to reach the next level. Furthermore, she’s developing crucial teamwork skills, understanding the vital verbal and nonverbal communication required in a band.”
This holistic development extends beyond musical skills. Michele adds, “families aren’t just biological, she has gained a ROCKIT family in her fellow band members, teachers, mentors, parents and BRUCE.” The sense of belonging and collaborative spirit is integral to the Rockit experience.
